Swimming in Guam is perfect for three reasons: warm tropical weather all year round, crystal clear waters with white sands, and an amazing backdrop of lush mountains, glimmering waterfalls and the wide Pacific Ocean.

The weather in Guam is as steady as it can get. Throughout the year it maintains a balmy 70 to 80°F. This small island-nation is perfectly positioned in the Pacific Ocean and near the equator so that the cool ocean breeze offsets the humidity and heat from the tropical sun. Although the country experiences a rainy season, the sun always manages to shine so that the island is never damped for too many days. There are occasional typhoons though, but the country and people are very well prepared. Rainy season is from July to November. It is good to avoid these months, but so far the country has been receiving guests in all the months of the year. The weather in Guam is better than in most leading island-resort destinations in the Asia-Pacific region: perfect for swimming or simply strolling by the beautiful beaches.

The second reason why people come here is Guam’s attractive beaches. Below are a few of them.

First stop is Cocos Island near the equally popular Tumon Bay. Cocos Island is uninhabited and is about a mile off Guam’s southern shore. Located within the Merrizo Barrier Reef, the beaches in Cocos Island are to die for. The water and sand here are what dreams are made of – blinding white-sand beaches, warm turquoise waters, seamless horizon, cool sea breeze and swaying palm trees, warm tropical sun, and post-card-perfect sunsets. What more is there to say? Besides swimming, visitors to Cocos Island may enjoy a number of water sports such as jet skiing, kayaking, parasailing, scuba diving, dolphin watching, windsurfing, shore snorkeling and boat snorkeling.

Another beach is the Governor Joseph F. Flores Beach Park, more commonly known by locals as Ypao Beach. This is no doubt the busiest beach in Guam because of its exciting night life. During the day, vacationing families enjoy swimming, snorkeling and engaging in other water activities. There is a specific area here that is perfect for snorkeling. Also, several community events, concerts, competitions or parties take place at the amphitheater or in the pavilions. In the evenings, the beach transforms into a venue for partying, drinking and adult entertainment. There’s just so much going on in here, especially during weekends.

Third is Taga’chang Beach Park. Just like Cocos Island, Taga’chang Beach Park has everything that one can dream of in a beach resort: white sands, clear-blue water, gentle surf, pine trees, limestone cliffs, coral reef and abundant marine life that make this beach ideal for swimming, snorkeling, fishing and diving. Admission is free, but visitors should bring their own lunch, since there are no restaurants in the park.

Finally, there are definitely many more beaches to enjoy, such as the Ipan Beach Park, Haputo Beach, Talofofo Beach and Coco Palm Garden Beach. Guam is a tropical island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean; it is impossible for anyone to visit Micronesia without swimming in Guam.
